Pinterest Core Business

Since Pintinterest has to maintain what it calls tasteful, transparent, relevant, and improved pins, it is yet to monetize its service fully. The site is yet to record any meaningful revenue since its launch in 2010. But all the same, the company is valued at $.3.8 billion.

The valuation may have been based on its infant monetization concept.

It has introduced charging businesses to create sponsored pins. With about 150 million users monthly, 75% of this being traffic emanating from its mobile users, Pintinterest has an enormous potential in the social media marketing arena.

Pinterest is surely a great tool to showcase your stuff, particularly if you are in the art industry or deal with stuffs such as ornaments. It creates you an avenue to reach the people you wouldn’t have otherwise reached.
But there are areas pinterest needs to tighten, particularly in terms of security. A person complained bitterly on a forum how some weird pins were being associated to him. He had the reported the matter to the pinterest customer service but was not accorded any meaningful help.
While such incidents are also common on Facebook, they may embarrass users. Like in the aforementioned case, the pins he was linked to were of pornographic.

I though pinterest has some sort of private policy, but this is not the case, or just may be they don’t observe it. For if they did follow it, they could not have been displaying users’ pins and profile images. I once saw my profile picture on Google and I have been struggling to take it down ever since. Pinterest also has poor customer relations. They take ages to respond to concerns raised by users. I wish they had a dedicated chat service where we users could get assisted as quickly as possible. While I like the service the site offers, I might just be forced to ship out.

There are isolated cases of scams on Pinterest. The pins may contain image of a renowned company or even a very cute pet, or just something readable but which calls to action. Clicking on such pins leads you to a third party site. They may ask you to participate in a survey or re-pin the pin.
Avoid clicking on pins or just anything you come about on Pinterest. Whether it is an AMAZING WEIGHT LOSS FORMULA or HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE, or FREE $100, avoid them like plague.

You could say that @Brian. I had very similar case. Some logged into my account, I don’t know how, but she has been commenting on pins using very unfortunate words. But it is my name that is behind the comments. She bullied me, courting me on every post. I thought enough was enough and reported the matter to pinterest after changing my passwords a couple of times. But they took so long to respond that I deactivated my account. I no longer use my account.
